Frequently asked questions.
-
What EVs are compatible with the Emporia Classic Charger?
We carry both J1772 plugs, which works with virtually all non-Tesla EVs, and NACS plugs for Tesla vehicles.
Do I need the Vue Energy Monitor?
Having the Vue with your charger gives you smart load management—this means your system will keep you from overloading your panel. In most cases, this helps you avoid expensive panel or breaker upgrades.
How fast will the charger charge my EV?
A Level 2 charger adds roughly 25 to 35 miles of range per hour, depending on your vehicle and conditions. That means most EVs can gain about 8–10 km per minute of charging. On average, a full charge for most EVs takes 6–8 hours overnight with a Level 2 charger.
What energy monitoring features does the charger offer?
The Classic charger offers smart scheduling, time-of-use management, and charging insights via the Emporia App—that’s all without needing the Vue.

Why do I need a licensed electrician?
An EV charger can draw as much power as an oven or dryer for 6–8 hours straight, often overnight while you sleep. A licensed electrician ensures your system is safe, code-compliant, and able to handle that demand without risking your home or family.
Can you install via NEMA 14-50 plug instead of hard-wiring?
Yes – we are able to install either setup, based on home capability and your preference.
How long does installation take?
A typical installation will take 2–3 hours, depending on how accessible your panel is. Our electricians will confirm timing during your initial consultation.
What’s included in your installation service?
Our installation covers everything from the initial consultation and site check to permits, wiring, and final testing of your charger. You get a complete, code-compliant setup with no middlemen — just our licensed electricians handling the job start to finish.
Do you handle permits and inspections?
Yes. We manage the entire process—from consultation to permit filing and final inspection—so you don’t have to worry about compliance.
Can the charger be installed outdoors?
Yes—chargers can be installed both indoors and outdoors. The Emporia Classic is NEMA 4 weather-rated, meaning it’s built to handle the extremes of Kelowna’s climate, from hot summers to freezing winters.
-
Will my panel handle an EV charger?
It depends on your home’s current capacity. Our licensed electrician will inspect your panel during the consultation, and if it’s near its limit, the Vue Energy Monitor can manage load safely and often prevent the need for a costly panel upgrade.
How does smart load management with the Vue work? The Vue monitors your home’s total electrical use in real time and automatically adjusts your EV charger’s power when your panel is near capacity. This keeps your system from overloading while still giving your EV as much power as your home can safely provide.
Do I need a panel upgrade?
Our installation includes a thorough consultation, and we'll let you know whether a panel upgrade is necessary—or if the Vue can help you avoid it.
Is charging overnight safe?
Charging at home is safe when installed correctly. EV chargers are designed for continuous, high-power use, but only if your system is properly set up and maintained. That’s why we guarantee safety only when our licensed electricians handle the installation. Most people charge overnight while sleeping—don’t take the risk of leaving your car pulling maximum power on an unverified system.
What certifications does the charger have?
The Emporia Classic is UL listed, ENERGY STAR certified, and meets key safety standards like NEC 625, UL 817, 991, 2231, 2251, and 2594.

How much does installation cost
Why does pricing vary by home?
Every installation is unique. Costs can change based on:
Distance from your panel (how much conduit or wiring we need)
Panel type and capacity (new vs. older homes)
Access and any visible complications (e.g., wall types or routing constraints)
What’s your “installation deposit”?
We require a $150 deposit to secure your installation slot. If you go ahead with our service, that deposit is fully applied to the total cost (EV charger + installation). This deposit covers your initial consultation. That means there’s no wasted trip—it goes toward your setup if you choose to move forward with us.
Do you offer financing or payment plans?
No, we do not currently offer financing or payment plans.
